Gangrene of the lung


Watercolour medical illustrations depicting gangrene of the lung. It has the alternative reference number 1983, 91 and P2C on the front. The Richmond Hospital Museum reference is B.e.35. The entry for this in P263/1 pg. 17 reads 'Gangrene of the lung. Michael Deering aet 34. Dr Greene'. A typescript caption is below the illustrations and reads 'Gangrene of the lung'. The handwritten note on the back reads 'Mich.l Deering aet 34. Gangrene of lung. P.t died with aneurism of [?] of aorta. Dr Greene. Bb.1.13. See Dub. J.l Vol xcii 522. Gangrene of the foot


Watercolour medical illustration depicting gangrene. It has the alternative reference number 1268, 45 and P7A on the front. The Richmond Hospital Museum reference is B.a.10. The entry for this in P263/1 pg. 11 reads 'Gangrene after ligature of the femoral artery. John McNally aet 29. Dr Hutton'. The handwritten note on the back reads 'Ac.3.1 Gangrene of the foot: In this case the femoral artery was tied for popliteal aneurism [sic] Jan.y 25/32. Upon the 7th of February large [?] had formed on the sole of the foot & in another week gangrene gad extended as far as the ankle. The ligature separated from the artery upon the 14th, at which time, there was a distinct pulsation in the aneurismal sac. Upon the 16th, the limb was amputated & the stump healed rapidly. The man died of phthisis in 1840. See catalogue page 444'.
